Housing is a Social Driver of Health
HSH recognizes that the social, economic and physical environment in which a person lives is widely recognized as influencing their overall health and well-being. The Center for Disease Controls (CDC) states “…conditions in the places where people live, learn, work and play affect a wide range of health risks and outcomes. These conditions are known as social determinants of health (SDOH)…”
When an adult, child or family loses their home and are placed in unstable, unsafe and transient housing their health risk increases. Homelessness is closely aligned to physical and mental health. People who are homeless experience a high range and rates of health problems.
HSH seeks to stem the direction of homelessness due to COVID-19 and other pandemics and health crises.
